Public Relations Management students were in for a treat when they attended a guest lecture by representatives from one of the world’s largest snacks companies.

Mondelēz International’s portfolio includes well-known brands such as Cadbury and Oreo.

Navisha Bechan-Sewkuran, Manager of Corporate and Government Affairs for Mondelēz International in South, Central and East Africa, explained how they align corporate and government affairs strategy to the overall Mondelēz International strategy.

“There is definitely a space for us (corporate communicators) at the boardroom table. Always have that in your mind. Your jobs and responsibility as up and coming PR, communication, government affairs practitioners is to make sure that you always work towards what is the goal of the organisation and how in my space can I translate that goal and strategies to raise awareness of what my organisation is doing and be seen as a really valuable team player.”

The students also learnt more about Cocoa Life, the multinational’s global cocoa sustainability programme.

Among other things, the programme assists farmers to become more productive and increase their income from cocoa.

Prof Nirvana Bechan, Head of the Media Department, said it was a privilege to have the team sharing their experiences with the students.
