The course aims to increase the capacity of professional planners and researchers within the profession. This capacity will increase the competitiveness of graduates to further their careers in research institutions as well as in academia.

The graduates could work in different environments, including, private planning firms, planning departments at different spheres of government (municipal, provincial and national), state-owned enterprises and non-governmental organisations.
