Qualifications available for RPL

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Process at CPUT is qualification specific and each academic department has its own requirements for RPL. RPL is undertaken against a limited number of qualifications, as listed below.

Each qualification has information requirements linked to their entry requirements and subject-specific knowledge that forms part of the additional information you are required to submit.

National Higher Certificate (NHC) in Accountancy

Please note: The Faculty of Business & Management Sciences is in the process of implementing a new HEQSF aligned Diploma in Accountancy, for 2019. You will be automatically moved to this new qualification when it is activated during 2019. Should you not wish to do so then the faculty will not be able to register you for the qualification you were accepted/ provisionally accepted/ waitlisted for.

Design Qualifications If you are interested in qualifications such as; Visual Communication (Graphic design), Photography, Fashion design, Product Design, Jewellery, Journalism, Public Relations and Communications you are required to submit a portfolio of evidence as part of your application. If you want to apply for RPL you have to submit the same portfolio as specified on the qualification’s pages under Faculty of Informatics & Design (FID). In addition, submit information regarding the work you are doing in relation to the subjects you want to study. In your motivational letter make it clear that you are applying for admission and RPL

Faculty of Health & Wellness

Diploma in Somatology Advanced standing You are required to write tests as part of your RPL application. Contact the department for more information
Diploma in Opticianary Access/ Advanced standing Supporting documentation for the RPL application should include a Curriculum Vitae (CV) detailing previous employment in the optical/ eye care field. A separate portfolio of evidence should provide details of experience relevant to the application. Details of industry-aligned short courses that may have been completed should be provided as should any formal subjects/ qualifications completed at tertiary level institutions.

BTech: Nursing Please note: CPUT is planning on offering a degree programme in Nursing from 2020/ 21, to replace the BTech, as required by the DHET. RPL applications will only be considered at the earliest in 2020. Information on the RPL process will be uploaded here when the degree programme has been officially approved.
