Community engagement

We are involved in a number of community engagement project initiatives, aimed at the career and personal development of disadvantaged youth:

Teachers training in career decision making and self management skills

This very practical and interactive project has been running for the past seven years and has attracted around 300 teachers from across the Cape Peninsula.

Teachers are welcome to register for any of the following workshops during 2009:

  • Career Decision Skills: This will provide you with an understanding of the Self Exploration Career Decision Making Model. You will also receive valuable information on training institutions, the world of work, financial aid and on how to start a resources venue at your school. Teachers are trained in these aspects so that they could better assist learners in their career decision making.
  • Managing the Classroom: This will equip you with skills to create a more positive learning environment.
  • Relationship Building and Managing Conflict: You will be introduced to a conflict resolution model that has been applied effectively in schools.
  • Stress Management: This workshop will equip you with the skills to deal more effectively with stress and burn-out.

Training is usually presented during one afternoon per week over five weeks and focus on the Self Exploration Model.

The model look at aspects of exploring self awareness, personality, interests, strengths and values, as well as information on training institutions, the world of work, financial aid and on how to start a resources venue at their schools. Teachers are trained in these aspects so that they could better assist learners in their career decision making.

Teachers training in job seeking skills

This training workshop is aimed at equipping teachers with the knowledge and skills to teach learners how to job hunt. It include topics such as CV writing, application for a job, preparation for and handling of a job interview and networking.

Life skills development to disadvantaged youth

We can be invited to present training workshops on a variety of topics to learners at schools.

Career outreach to disadvantaged youth

Career counseling workshops for learners can be arranged upon request from schools. The training are presented over two sessions. Learners are encouraged to explore self awareness, personality strengths, interests, skills and values. They are also provided with information on careers and study courses offered at Further Education and Training Colleges, Universities of Technology and Universities.
