CCS Mission

Mission Statement

To focus on text-based scholarship, creative outputs, and the development of intellectual property. Thereby to align with the 2030 vision of ‘ONE SMART CPUT’ in terms of both the ONE'NESS goals of human-centeredness, culture, identity, and shared values; and the SMART goals of relevance, excellence, tech-based growth, and resilience. This will be conducted through working alongside the Faculty of Informatics and Design staff, postgraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and external project partners to initiate, develop and support:
  • Funded Research Projects;
  • Accredited Text-Based Research Outputs in CPUT RTI focus areas;
  • Accredited Creative Outputs in CPUT RTI focus areas;
  • Concepts lodged in the field of communication to be developed into Project Plans and Prototypes suitable for Intellectual Property registration in the form of patents, copyright, and trademarks;
Research and Postgraduate study is supported on behalf of departments in FID through
  • Establishing Doctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships;
  • Supporting postgraduate qualifications
  • Encouraging excellence in the study of communication, through support and provision of scholarly engagements like summer schools, short courses and seminars with intra-institutional, local, national, regional, continental, and international scholars and disciplinary specialists;
  • Encouraging social, cultural, economic, and political relevance in the study of communication, through hosting conference and publication opportunities alongside intra-institutional, local, national, regional, continental, and international colleagues.
  • Encouraging self-employment and job-creation for graduates and institutional income for CPUT by prioritising work-oriented research and the development of innovative intellectual property
