Department of Maritime Studies is inviting members of the public to its Open Day, with the mission of educating them about careers in the industry.

According to the department, the purpose of the Open Day is to expose students that know nothing about maritime studies to the discipline. The event will take place at Granger Bay Campus from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, 14 September.

The department’s goal for the first semester in the next academic year is to register between 40 and 50 students in Nautical Science and the same number for Engineering.

The event will begin with the welcoming of students and parents by the Department’s Head, Theresa Williams. This will be followed by a presentation by counsellor and guest speaker, Fe Van Haght from Empowered Practices, a company based in Brackenfell.

To sum up the day's experience there will also be presentations and exhibitions by different companies such as Amsol, Marine Crew Services and Sea Harvest.
