Know your CPUT - Campus Health Clinics

DEDICATED: Some of the staff members who provide a professional and discrete health care service at the Bellville Campus Clinic DEDICATED: Some of the staff members who provide a professional and discrete health care service at the Bellville Campus Clinic

CPUT Campus Health Clinics offer a wide range of Primary Health Care (PHC) and emergency care services to students.

The clinics are staffed by medical doctors who lead the health team and clinical nurse practitioners.

To access the services students on all campuses can make an appointment to consult with a clinical nurse practitioner on a first-come first-served basis.

However, in cases of emergency students are seen immediately without an appointment.

In addition to general medical consultations and wound care, family planning services are also offered at the clinics.

Over the last year, the clinics expanded their services to the university’s satellite campuses in Granger Bay, Athlone, Worcester and George.

“We send staff members to satellite campuses twice a month and we rely on the Department of Health’s officials to take care of students at the other times as per agreement,” says Andries Slinger, Acting Head of Student Health Services.

Slinger says mental health services are also offered at the clinics in conjunction with the Health Department Programmes.

The services are delivered with a strong referral component for specialized investigations such as X-rays and MRI scans.

While the clinics are meant for students, staff members also benefit from health campaigns run by the clinics’ staff,  such as blood pressure checks, blood glucose checks and weight monitoring.

The clinics operate from 08H30 to 16H30 and the emergency line for medical enquiries is 076 229 0298.
