Cape Speed Show and Shine

SUPPORT: The car show is in support of CPUT students who have made history by qualifying for the 2012 Formula Student competition.

CPUT is calling all car enthusiasts to make their way to the Bellville Campus this weekend for the “Cape Speed, Show and Shine” event.

The car-show will take place at the university’s Sports Field and give car enthusiasts an opportunity to show-off their wares, from vintage to show cars.

This fundraising event is in aid of the group of Mechanical Engineering students who will compete in the 2012 Formula Student competition in the UK during July.

The group will race against students from across the globe in a formula one car that they designed and built by themselves.

This is the first time CPUT will compete in the competition, which to top it all off, CPUT is the only South African university to secure a place in this year’s competition.

Event organiser Dean Jacobs encourages CPUT staff members and the public to come out in support of the students.

“We would like people to come out and participate in this exciting event. It gives car enthusiasts an opportunity to share their passion with their families,” says Jacobs.

Jacobs says visitors to the event will have access to a variety of stalls selling food to car parts. There will also be a kiddie’s corner featuring a jumping castle and other exciting games.

The event will take place on 2 June from 10:30am till 4pm. Entrance fee is R20 per person, R10 per child under 12 and R50 for families of four to five. Children under the age of 2 enter for free.

The event is organised by the Engineering Faculty in conjunction with Maxdup Media and SSJ Concepts.
