Information for incoming International Exchange Students

Cape Town, (otherwise known as the Mother City) has received countless awards and accolades as one of the world‘s most beautiful and beloved cities in the world. A coastal city in the southernmost region of Africa, Cape Town is overlooked by the majestic Table Mountain (one of the seven most natural wonders of the world) and surrounded by a string of beaches washed by the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.

Cape Town has a great deal to offer visitors. Beyond its natural breath-taking beauty it is a hub of arts and culture, located in a unique biodiversity hotspot, and home to award winning wine estates and top restaurants. The cost of living in Cape Town is much lower than most cities in the US, Europe and Australia. As one of South Africa’s largest cities, Cape Town offers a diverse culture and wide range of activities for its visitors and residents.

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology is the biggest of the four world class universities within the Western Cape. It boasts an enrolment of more than 33 000 students, spread among several faculties and programmes. The main campuses are in Bellville and in the Cape Town city bowl. Have you ever dreamed of studying abroad? This could be the break you have been waiting for. The Cape Peninsula University of Technology understands the need for internationalisation and global knowledge in this era of globalisation. CPUT is committed to achieve its internationalisation objective whether it’s through internationalisation at home, or internationalisation of the curriculum through student exchanges (outgoing) – one way or another we are doing it.

The Faculty of Business and Management Sciences has a dedicated office, the Unit for Strategic Initiatives and Projects which strives to contribute to the achievement of CPUT’s internationalisation objectives. This unit is managed by Dr Diane Bell who is a specialist in the field of internationalisation. She is supported by an International Exchange Co-ordinator, Ms Nicole Umwizerwa who manages all the administrative and logistical components related to both incoming and outgoing international exchange students.

Below are some useful dates and links for incoming Exchange Students:

CPUT’s academic year usually commences early February and ends early December. The first semester runs from February to mid-June and the second semester begins in mid-July until December. This is different to the academic semesters in Europe with the first semester beginning in September and ending January, or October to February.
